Travelog: Fuji Five Lakes

Hey! Happy new year. I hope 2015 will be a better year for all of us.
2015, bring it on!

I have a lot to be shared this past week, and I’ll begin by sharing my travel to Fuji Five Lakes..
Well, not really a travel, because I was there for a job, so I can’t take a lot of pictures because my job is the priority.

Who does not know Mt. Fuji (富士山)?
It is highest mountain in Japan, lies in the boundary between Yamanashi and Shizuoka prefectures.
It’s usually open for climber during summer. The starting point to climb is the 5th station, (which is closed during the winter).

There are five lakes around Mt. Fuji, they are Yamanakako, Kawaguchiko, Saiko, Shojiko, and Motosuko.
How to reach Mt. Fuji and Fuji 5 lakes?
To reach Kawaguchiko Station, you could go by train from Otsuki Station, or by bus from Gotemba station. There are buses to take you to some famous places around Fuji 5 lakes.
The list of transportation and the fare could be found here.

I was there for a job, so they provide the transportation.
On the highway to Mt. Fuji.
The first destination is Kawaguchiko(河口湖)

This is the easiest accessible lake. This lake is located right in the base of Mt. Fuji. In winter, usually the Fuji 5th station is closed, so this is the closest spot to see Mt. Fuji.
What’s around Kawaguchiko?
Kachi-Kachi Ropeway
This ropeway will take you to Mount Tenjo.
Mount Tenjo is the setting of Japanese folklore about a rabbit gets revenge on a Tanuki.
You could reach Mt. Tenjo by hiking too (it takes around 40 minutes).
This is the end point of the hike.

A small shrine is built to respect the rabbit.
How to pray:
First, pet the right leg, then the left right, and lastly the head.
This bell is made for couples and family.
You have to ring it 2-3 times to wish a long-lasting relationship

The view from the top of Kachi kachi ropeway.
It’s quite high, ですねえ。
The next destination is Iyashi no Sato (いやしの里).
It is located on the western part of Lake Saiko, and could be reached by bus.
It is a former farmer village that was destroyed by a landslide in 1966.
Now, it has been rebuilded, and mainly used for museum, shops, and traditional craft workshops.
Mt. Fuji can also be seen from here.
Tourist Information house.

The Museum that save the history of this village.

Approximately 20 farmer houses could be found here
Last stop is the Sengen Shrine (北口本宮冨士浅間神社)
This Shrine is located around Kawaguchiko. The main Shrine is located on the opposite side of Mt. Fuji, in Fujinomiya City.
IMHO, there is nothing special about this Shrine.
That’s all folks. I hope it could it could help you if you want to travel around fuji-san, without spending a night in a hotel.
Comments are always loved.
